01

Choose the level of customization

A branded box, a revised instruction booklet, a different color assortment and a newly developed part are separate projects. Identify what must change and what can remain standard. Packaging customization does not automatically include a new mold, exclusive product design or ownership of an existing design.

02

Create an artwork brief that can be checked

Specify brand name, logo files, selling country, languages, barcode ownership, required warnings and responsible contact details. Request the correct dieline before artwork is prepared. Review typography, dimensions and mandatory information at actual print size, not only on a small screen.

03

Make the box match the contents

The assembled model, accessories, colors and piece-count statement should correspond to the agreed version. If one package contains one of several designs, make that distinction clear. Instructions should describe the supplied set. Attractive artwork creates a problem when it promises a build that is not included.

04

Approve a sample and a packaging proof

Agree which approvals are digital and which require a physical sample. Check fit, internal protection, print layout, instruction legibility and package closure. The approved proof should carry a revision reference. Changes after approval need review and may affect cost or timing.

05

Keep intellectual property responsibilities explicit

Only supply artwork and character designs you are entitled to use. Compatibility claims, licensed characters and third-party brand references require their own review. A sourcing conversation does not grant a trademark license. Generic construction toys should not be presented as official products of another brand.

06

Separate development from repeat supply

Ask for artwork preparation, samples, tooling where applicable, production minimums and recurring packaging costs to be distinguished. Record ownership and future use of paid development in the written agreement. Repeat pricing should identify the approved product and artwork revision.
